I really enjoyed this. You are an excellent writer. And I do not just mean the quality of the structure, which is without any flaw as far as I perceive. It's just so artful.
Hey Jane. The rooms like the ones your daughter was in are not like actual “prison cells”. I’ve been in plenty. Yes, they often use the mattresses that other floors/treatment centers of “regular” facilities have discarded, but at least we HAVE mattresses. The food is often horrible (ask for “vegetarian” meals…WAY BETTER). Yes, our mental health/law enforcement treatment needs improvement. I’m certainly NOT defending THAT. But describing those rooms like prison cells is a bit of an entitled perspective. I’d rather be on a BH Unit than one in any other country (except maybe Germany, Sweden, Denmark, etc.!). I have my continued existence thanks to some very caring doctors. Of course they can’t take the entire weight of finding purpose in our lives, but they can certainly help.
